Non-Emergency Calls

Non-emergency 911 calls are any calls to 911 where a caller does not need immediate emergency response. 

The largest type of non-emergency call received are accidental calls. These calls occur when a caller does not realize they called 911 or dialed 911 in error. Cellular phones can sometimes accidently call 911 without the persons knowledge (like a pocket dial), so it is important to ensure that a locked screen feature is enabled to avoid accidental calls from cellular phones. At times callers may have intended to dial another help line (like 411 or 811) but call 911 in error.  If you call 911 by accident, please stay on the line and let the 911 Call Taker know it was a mistake. This saves the 911 Call Taker from having to call you back to confirm if there is an emergency.

Non-emergency calls to 911 can take valuable time away from 911 Call Takers answering real emergency 911 calls.  

It is important to remember that 911 is for emergencies where there is an immediate threat to life, health, safety or property that requires emergency response.
